Deconstructed Hexagon Quilt

Okay, kind of funny story about how I came to love sewing hexagon quilts... 

One day I sat down and decided that I was going to cut triangles and sew them together into squares and I was going to make a square pattern quilt. But do you know that you need to cut right angle triangles to make square? Because I sure didn't!

So I cut out alllll my triangles, laid them out and realised that I had a problem.... I had hexgons, not squares. Hmph. I made the quilt anyway and it became one of my favourite quilts of all time, both the sewing of it and the end result!

Customizable to suit your taste and space, you can choose from teal tones, rose colors or neutral tones. Each quilt is sewn onto a mink blanket on the back, to further enhance the cosy experience!

I have always loved the process of creating a quilt, though it is definitely a time consuming one! The designs are created by me, so there is a lot of math to start with (not my strong suit to be sure!) before the fun of choosing the colors and fabric begin! Then comes the cutting and stitching, ironing and pinning, before it all comes together into a layer of fabric that I then sew onto a mink blanket. The binding (the strip of fabric that wraps around the edge of the blanket to hold it in place and to cover the seam) is hand stitched down. Many a happy hour has been spent curled up on the couch with a quilt on my lap, stitching away whilst watching Pride and Prejudice....  

Care tips - If a bowl of ice-cream and hot fudge brownies accidently get upended on your quilt, do not stress! The quilt can be put in the washing machine on a gentle cycle. Please avoid using the dyer the different fabrics may shrink differently, and you will be left with a lumpy quilt :( Simply drape over the washing or lay flat and allow to dry. Ironing after is not needed or advised, the more you wash it the more comfy and cosy it will get.
